For last many years, the people belonging to different school of thoughts like Shia, Sunni and Ismaili were living peacefully in the scenic region of Gilgit and Baltistan. The region was famous for its calm and cordial environment. However in May 1988, at sudden, a large number of Wahabi terrorists attacked the adjoining areas of Gilgit. The brigades of terrorist were enjoying the full support and backing of the wicked dictator General Zia. The terrorists played devastation in the Jalalabad, Minawar and adjoining areas. Government was silent spectator and even in few places it was openly helping the terrorists in their assassination campaign against the Shian e Haider Karar. Hundred of Shia people were brutally killed; their houses were burst into flames. The terrorists never took any exception in burning the holy and religious places like Masajids.

Government must conduct a comprehensive investigation into 1988 homicide: Anjuman e Imamia Gilgit

The 22nd anniversary of Shohda Millat e Jafaria was observed with an aim and commitment, that every member of the community will follow the path of martyrs. In this connection, a program was organized in Imamia Jama Masjid Gilgit to pay homage to martyrs of 1988. While addressing a huge gathering Quaid Millat e Jafaria Gilgit Baltistan Syed Rahat Hussain Al Hussaini condemned the negligence of government in probing the killings of 1988 mayhem, when large numbers of terrorist attacked the town of Gilgit and hundred of Momineens were killed. Aga Rahat said twenty two years have been passed since the terrible events of 1988 but government has not been succeeded in apprehending the culprits.
